Manga Pick of the Week - Our Dreams at Dusk

This week's pick is Our Dreams at Dusk by Shimanami Tasogare.

This is a story about finding love, understanding, and acceptance, for both yourself and others. It’s a coming of age story, but explores the relationships and identities of it’s characters across all ages. I adored the magical realism that only came through the dreamy illustrations. I think they perfectly visually captured what it’s like to feel such a range of emotions.

I loved the variety of rich, interesting, and flawed LGBTQ+ characters that together make the best kind of found family. It uses harsh language at times, and deals with heavy topics relating to sexuality and gender. But it’s done in a way that maintained dignity and felt very honest and human. This is a completed series with only 4 volumes, and I’m glad because I couldn’t put it down until it was finished. I laughed, I cried, at times I was frustrated, and I’m so glad I picked it up.
